Not had a lot of chance to listen to this, 2 things come to mind though;
There is a definite Slayer feel to the songs, in the riffs and rhythm patterns but that's always been the case.
Also the production is way better than Vol3 - the snare drum is fuller, the bass drum is less clicky and the guitars are fuller.
(I personally prefer the production on the first 2 albums than Subliminal Verses).
Sorry, I can't be more detailed, but I'm snowed under with stuff at the moment! ... Read More:

Finally. After all these years of mild disappointments we have a new Metallica album worthy of the name.

First impressions track by track (because I'm that sad)...

"That was just your life" starts with a slow heartbeat then builds until by about 1 min 30 we're on our way. This could easily be off "Justice" its that good. 4m 52s and Kirks been thawed out of his deep freeze and ta da! we have serious solo action on a Metallica album again [large smile spreads across face]

Chad Kroeger is a song writing genious. Not, of course, for ANY of the right reasons, but because he has a truly remarkable ability to churn out some of the most pathetic songs ever recorded and still sell millions of records. For this he deserves credit - in the same way Hitler deserves credit for tricking Europe into allowing him to rise to power.

It is not an exxaggeration in any way to describe Nickelback as the worst band ever. Chad Kroeger is the most listener-insultingly abysmal lyricist that I have ... Read More:

I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.

So, here we go with studio album number 24 from the legendary Motorhead, a band whose status is assured, and who have reached that point in their career where they are almost beyond criticism. Now, as a fully paid up Motorheadbanger, I'm not going to be the one to start, but this is the third album in a row after Inferno and Kiss Of Death where the band has gone into the studio to be produced by Cameron Webb, and it's virtually interchangeable with them. Which isn't a bad thing, just a predictable one. So if someone asks me what the new ... Read More:

Kid Rock seems to belong to the growing number of 'artists' who have taken at least some of their inspiration from the blues and soul stars of the sixties, seventies, and earlier decades, only to miss the point. Is there some intended irony in the choice of title? Modern rhythm and blues grew out of the churches and church choirs of the South. Kid Rock seems to have as much moral or physical depth, as much connection with the blues, as a plate of cold chips.

This album is a mixture of misogyny, misanthropy, narcissism, and self-loathing, ... Read More:

I came to Metallica late, this was the first album I bought after seeing them on the 'Freddie Mercury Tribute' at Wembley in 1992. I was already into metal, but at that time it was Faith No More, RHCP, that sort of thing. What got me the most was the sound, that heavy brutal metal sound but with a real attention to structure and attitude. And the musicality (sic) of it too. In 1992, being just 17, Metallica's Black album defined an entire year for me - it was the year I left school and the summer before I went to college. I have fond memories of discovering ... In my personal opinion it's better than the previous album and the bonus tracks dont let down the album.
some of the long ongoing riffs by herman melt your mind and will leave you knowing you've got a good buy.
A track you have to listen to is call "reasons to live" starts really heavy and such a well put together track.
If you would like a taster of the album go on youtube or what ever and check the song "heroes of our time".
