| New fairytales are surely dangerous territory for big film studio's to venture into. Stardust has overcome that hurdle by recruiting an 'A' list cast.
Having taken that leap of faith, a production of great merit is the result. The triumph of which must be the understated, tongue in cheek delivery by the principles, even the Americans. | The producers of Layer Cake tried very hard to shape this standard gangster fare into something fresh, cool and original. They failed.
Matthew Vaughn who produced Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch lazily decided to produce yet another gangster flick, without Guy Ritchie, as a vehicle to move him into the mainstream as a director. | Not quite knowing what to expect from the film I was pleasantly surprised by both the story and the quality of acting, especially from Daniel Craig. The film takes you from one scene to another at a good pace and leaves you feeling like you have watched a film that is not afraid to deal with the real issues and consequences of peoples actions.
This film is also the single reason Mr. Craig won the role of 007 as he shows he can play the "gritty" character well. |

| This is one where you switch brain off and go for the fun ride. Beautiful actors ( well maybe not Sienna Miller ) beautiful sets and a great story. Also play spot the english comedy actor ( Green Wing , Smack the pony , Little Britain , Shrek etc ) and an amazing posh PA English accent by the American Claire Daines , you'll believe she went to Eton !! Even Ricky Gervais manages a decent bit part. |

| These are my three best British gangster movies.
Snatch and Lock, Stock have nearly all the same cast, and the witty plots and one liner jokes are second to none, Guy Richie really hit the nail on the head with these films. Layer Cake is of a more serious nature, but makes just as good viewing as the other two. All in all I fully recommend this box set to anyone who is into the "gangster movie" scene. You wont regret it. |
