This film is boring and badly acted especially by Miss Knighty. The story not clear and missing vital information from the book well not so much missing but not making it clear. I looked forward to taking my wife to this and wished I had not it was truly truly bad. She like myself had read the book at some time but seriously felt let down. Would not recommend at all, stay at home with your feet up and watch paint drying its more fun honest!

An enjoyable film , but not as powerful or as moving as the film Amistad in conveying the cruelty and injustice of slavery. Despite this, an enjoyable film, especially the rousing bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace at the end which was worth the price of the DVD alone.

Having read the book, I wondered how this would translate to film. I've got to say that it far surpassed my expectations. This film is a showcase for the HDDVD format, it looks fabulous on a large HD TV. From the opening scenes in the house and gardens to the chaos of the wartime beach, it never fails to impress. I'm shocked at some of the reviews; I found it gripping from beginning to end, and visually stunning. My copy cost about a fiver: a bargain if there ever was one.

Where did they get a film like this from. It is truly magic. Forget James McAvoy as being the stand out. Steven Robertson gives a performance that in my opinion deserves a BAFTA. I have never seen this actor before. I was rivited by his performacne. Top film.

It shows the vanity and hypocrisy of England 200 years ago. Strange but becky seemed to have the secret of eternal youth never ageing in the film once she was adult. Nice to have no bad language nor explicit sex.

This film faithfully follows the story of Dodie Smith's beautiful and sometimes painful novel, but cannot capture its magic or the lyrical narrative which is so important (and what is really successful) about the novel. Read the book first, then enjoy this film for the pictures!

I first watched this film a couple of years ago when my friend got given it. I fully expected to be slightly dissapointed because i was at that time a big lover of Dirty Dancing the original. However this film, in my opinion is a lot better than the first one. The first thing i think you should know is that it is not a sequel to Dirty Dancing, in many ways it is more of a prequel having happened before the first. This came as a bit of a surprise, suffice it to say, due to the photo used on the cover. I expected less but was so pleasantly surprised! I read Nicholas Nickleby years ago and have no plans to read it in the near future. That said, I had forgotten much of the story. It is obvious, though, that even without remembering much of the book nor the story, there is much that has been left out of the movie. No matter. What is left here is perfect.
