Just get it. It'll cost you a penny second hand, and it's well worth it. I mean just look at the fact there are 38 reviews to it's name!

But beware, he's going to talk about God. That's right, a psychotherapist talking about God. He only does so however in the last section and by then you've got enough benefit from it to throw it away with a smile and no resentment, no matter how hardened an atheist you are.

Having for the last two years been a student of the integrative approach with an emphasis on the humanistic paradigm, I was fascinated by Roger's own journey and reasoning behind his Core Conditions as well as his presentation of the humanistic paradigm in its original form.

My only criticisms of this book are it's repetitiveness (better editing required in bringing together the constituent papers) and it's verbosity, which only serves to obfuscate the subject matter.

This book is not bad, but it's not very good either. The book is detailed and gives a good description of what social anxiety and shyness is and how it develops and continues, but it is missing something. In some parts the book is painfully dry. I think I'll need to see a professional to help me overcome my problems.

I first read this book ten years ago when I started teaching English in various parts of the world. I thought it a wonder. We are hard-wired for grammar; it must be true. My students in Europe, Asia and the Middle-East begged to differ.

Now I'm studying for an MA in Linguistics and I beg to differ too.

Still, I think you should read this book; it's a fine piece of propaganda. Then read Jean Aitchison's 'The Articulate Mammal'; Reith lecturer, Oxford prof and so forth. Not so cool . ... Read More:

Books : Don't Sweat the Small Stuff...and it's All Small Stuff: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things from Taking Over Your Life
I've always wanted to be serene, and after reading this book - over a decade ago - I took the first big step towards that goal: I realised that, instead of being annoyed at people who did things I disliked, I could feel compassion towards them.

This lesson has served me well through and has helped me to grow up. I am very sorry to learn of the author's early death, and agree that his life helps to underpin the lessons his book teaches.

I cannot recommend this book enough! Aside from the fact that I have found it personally life-changing (the simple heart-brain breathing exercise in the first chapter is worth many times the cost of the book on its own), I have, in the past few months, recommended it to many of my life coaching clients. They have all been delighted with it too.

Very interesting for someone new to the concept of emotional intelligence, especially parents or teachers. Almost all examples and studies are drawn from children (kindergarten or primary school age, mostly), and how their EQ can be observed and stimulated. However, the book of limited use to adults who want to understand the strengths and limitations of their own emotional intelligence, or how to improve it.
I gather when this book first came out it was a groundbreaking work. Much research and writing has been done since then, so there ... Read More:
