| There are many good points in this book but the author is going completely wrong in his negative view of working mothers. Study after study has now clearly shown that children are happiest when the mother is happiest - whether working or at home. The uncomfortable truth is: Staying at home with a young child can be torture. Incredibly boring, irritating and stressful. | I got this book and CD to go with the Hypnobirthing classes (which you are supposed to attend, with the book as an 'add on'). Afterwards I felt very positive about childbirth (two months to go now) but was frustrated that there was not enough detail about practising hypnosis on my own. In the end, I found **HYPNOBABIES** - a five week home study course, complete with 6 CDs, weekly guidelines for learning 'medical hypno-anaesthesia' and I feel much, much happier and confident about my ability to birth in comfort ... | After my son's diagnosis two months ago at the age of six I have been reading various books about Asperger's. I stumbled across this gem of a book and would thoroughly recommend it as a fabulously potted explanation of the spectrum of symptons and characteristics of AS. I have found that explaining the syndrome to others can be quite tricky but this book accomplishes this and can be read and understood in thirty minutes. | I read this book a couple of years ago while I was still training to be a midwife and having just finished Penny and Sheryl's next book A Wise Birth I am reminded what an important book this is/was to me and how much of what they write about has stayed with me. It is vivid and moving and a fascinating insight into Penny's journey from being a hospital midwife to working and living with the Amish community |

| I wanted this book for the night training section and only wish I'd had it several months ago when I was training my son to stay dry during the day, which I found really quite testing. I am now completely serene about the nights and feel far better prepared for potty training my second son, though I have a year to wait for that. It's a delightful book - thoughtful and wise - with none of the prescriptive, slightly patronising tones of others I've read. | I feel like I had read about a million books by nanny experts and theorists about how to get your child to sleep and none of them seemed quite right until I came across this book. It does not treat the parent as some sort of neurotic, well meaning but slightly useless creature but empowers you to make a sensible choice of technique which is appropriate to you and your individual child, and which addresses specific sleep issues from night waking, to early rising. | This is an incredibly funny and extremely informative read. I have to give it 5 stars for it's innovation alone. We have a number of books in this area, all well written but none as enjoyable to learn from as this. Highly recommended. I'll be buying the toddler version once we're at that stage! |

| A super book. Says a lot of things which are true, and very funny. Recognised myself in some of them.
Captures the first year (Or 21 months to be exact) of you and your baby's life. "Bang, bang, you're Dad" is one of the best chapter titles for a long while. Recommended book for all fathers. Also recommended to mothers- it's far funnier than most of the mother advice books...and male humour helps get rid of the worst fusspot instructions that may be bothering you. |

| I bought this book to try and recapture a bit of happiness and stress-less existence for myself before it's too late. With three children under four stress is my middle name. This is full of really useful suggestions, advice, anecdotes from other mums etc - strategies for dealing with badly behaved children, relationship troubles, work pressures, housework crises and losing yourself into the big mum hole.
