| This book is excellent for helping anyone who is looking to really connect with their children.It is the most practical parenting book I have ever read, full of real examples to help when you are actually in the situations yourself.Not only has it altered my attitude to my children, but to all humans.I am finding the tools helpful and liberating in all my relationships, including my relationship with myself!I cannot recommend this enough. |

| I am a huge Annabel Karmel fan and after her Favourite Family Meals book, this comes second. I use this book for inspiration constantly. Our favourites are the paella, the prawn korma, the Singapore noodles and the meatball recipes. I also do a lot of baking and find Annabel Karmel's cake/ biscuit recipes to be the most delicious all around. | This book has some genuine and valuable core scientific insights, so I recommend it for that reason. Beyond this I feel that there is a significant amount of creative extrapolation couched in scientific terms - interesting and logical, but possibly lacking in rigorous scientific evidence.
I feel that she does parents and herself a gross disservice by almost completely dismissing breastfeeding from her discussions of the physical and psychological development of both infant and child. |

| This is a fantastic book for both parents and researchers new to autism. Nothing is 'dumbed down' but Baron-Cohen writes in a very readable, engaging style that, even if you know nothing about the subject of autism, will make you want to solve its so far very elusive mystery.
Highly recommended, along with Baron-Cohen's other books in the area ('The Essential Difference' is very good if you want to explore the gender aspect further, something Baron-Cohen introduces in the book) |

| My 5 month old daughter was really poorly one night and I rang an old friend (mother of two) for advice, she used this book as a reference and said it had always proved useful with her children. The easy to follow guide and clear information can be reassuring at 3am in the morning with a young child! I bought it on her recommendation and have found it a great help. |

| I was looking for a book that would help me to recognise signs of Asperger's Syndrome in girls of Infant School age (around 5-7) This book did not do that but it gave a really interesting insight into what it is like for women and older girls with autism, and I read it in an afternoon because I found it so interesting. |

| I'd been considering studying Childhood and Youth Studies with the Open University and decided to give this book a go as a brief insight into the concept of childhood. I found this book gripping, insightful and was often amazed at some of the facts presented in this book. The author brings together a range of ideas outlined in the likes of other books such as Neil Postman's 'The Disappearance of Childhood' and ultimately it is left to the reader to draw their own conclusions.
