Unlike some of the "NEGATIVE" reviews listed here, old groaners and moaners who obviously didn't read the book or missed the point completely and haven't ploughed through the hundreds of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) books like this - this one gets to the point with out much if any "mumbo jumbo" or "pie in the sky" weird stuff - it's easy to read, you can read it in a day if you're a slow reader like I am!

In fact, the book shows you how to avoid NEGATIVITY & NEGATIVE PEOPLE - ... Read More:

Books : Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking
Sometimes decisions need to be made quickly. All of our knowledge, education, experience, reasoning, intuition, common sense and confidence must come together rapidly.

Malcolm Gladwell calls quick decision making thin slicing in his book: Blink. Thin slicing is the ability to focus on a small set of critical variables to make a quick decision rather than consciously considering every possible variable.

Many decisions are time dependent. Weighing the amount of information needed ... Read More:

I am a Clinical Teacher for Junior Doctors and Medical Students. This book transformed my teaching. Learning goes on in the heads of the learner. The teacher just has to ask the right questions, create legitimate time for thinking, and allow the students to learn to think. Doctors need to be the highest level thinkers in the team - this book helps to be a far better, more relaxed teacher.

Dullest book by a major scientist I have ever read

I suppose if you know almost nothing about cognition or AI research you might find this book useful. For anyone else it is a horrific bore. There are hundreds of books in cog sci, robotics, AI, evolutionary psych(EP) and philosophy offering far more info and insight on cognition than this one. Minsky is a top rate senior scientist but it barely shows here. He has alot of good references but they are seldom discussed in any depth and there is lots ... Read More:

This is without comparison the book that has had the most profound effect on me. I've been reading self-help books from Dalai Lama to Dr. Phil, but this is the only one where every single line rings true and sends you thinking: "Yes, that's exactly how it is! That's exactly how I feel."

Truly a life-changing book. You owe it to yourself to try it out.

I am a chronically shy person and this was my 2nd book that I had read on the subject. The first book I had read was useless so I was a little hesitant on reading any others. The authors are extremely supportive and make you feel that you can overcome this debilitaing condition. They do offer practical tips and guidelines to work through but personally none of them reall worked for me. However, I just really liked the positive and supportive nature of the authors that comes across very well. The book may be of some use to shy ... Read More:

Agree with the other reviewer. This is a really useful overview of the main themes and shifts of emphasis in modern art in the late 19th and 20th centuries, encouraging the reader to appreciate that "what it looks like" is only half the story - just as important is "what does it mean". It moves at a hell of a pace which makes it surprising that there is a lot of rather stiff, almost university thesis-ish "as we have discussed in chapter 7" and "Picasso, who we have already seen in Chapter 1... " type formulations which are unnecessary ... Read More:

This book explains the complex and diverse theories relating to animal behaviour in an accessible way for students of all capabilites. The author is a leading authority in the field of Animal Learning, but he is not in the least bit patronising to his readers. The theories and experiments are explained in adequate depth and all opposing views are presented in a fair and unbiased manner.
