I am a Clinical Teacher for Junior Doctors and Medical Students. This book transformed my teaching. Learning goes on in the heads of the learner. The teacher just has to ask the right questions, create legitimate time for thinking, and allow the students to learn to think. Doctors need to be the highest level thinkers in the team - this book helps to be a far better, more relaxed teacher.

This book provides an invaluable resource for a person who is trying to understand a person with BPD,or get help for them. Linehan's method has undergone randomized clinical trials and demonstrated its worth. Nevertheless,it is quite common for therapists to insist they can treat BPD with other methods. Stick with Linehan's Dialectical Behavior Therapy(DBT). The book will arm you well to deal with both therapists, and patient(or yourself if you are the patient.) Accept no substitutes.

This is a great introduction to MBTI, but despite saying, please don't use the MBTI to pigeon-hole people, that's what the book does. Carl Jung (on whose work the MBTI is based) isn't even mentioned.

This is an excellent for people wanting to use type-watching at work, but for a more nuanced view you'll have to go elsewhere.

A really good book, with user-friendly chapters making it ideal for use in academic research. However, once I started to read it I couldn't put it down it makes a fascinating read, and helped me to understand children's minds.

Burling's relatively short volume is very readable, non-technical attempt to mark a path looking at real world forces in connection with the evolution of speech. Centrally, and without bold claims, he stresses the importance of cognitive evolution proceeding physiological evolution: shared meaning, and the understanding of intention must proceed more sophisticated communication practices.

He repudiates the position of those who believe in the necessity of rapid phological evolution: again, ... Read More:

This is NOT head in the clouds new age thinking, but respectable science presented for the lay reader. Dr Seligman has a way with words and writes a very readable book. He presents his research into unhappiness and pessimism and gives exercises in how to change your thinking, to become happier and more optimistic. Last week, a colleague who I've known for three years said "Mike, you look so happy -- that book must be working". That really happened -- I promise. You really should read this book.

In this book Brok castigates neurology books that have a bent towards morbid curiosity. he skirts the issue, yes, but essentially says that they rely more on the human curiosity of such neurological oddities rather than being a hard fast paced walk through more complex issues and reasons for the phenomena. Yes,that's fine and I agree, actually. The front runner being Oliver Sacks, but at least Sacks' books acknowledge a profound lack of understanding, acknowledge the dichtomous nature of a neurolgist (and offshoots, ... Read More:

Your shadow is all of the bits of your psyche you don't like and don't admit to. Most of them are grim but one or two are the nice bits that you can't handle. Ignoring them doesn't make them go away but you do it anyway. This doesn't stop them demanding expression. Because you can't admit to them, you project them onto other people. You're seeing your own shadow when you look at others and so simultaneously fail to see them and yourself clearly. Result: general unhappiness and inauthentic living. The solution is to fess ...
