As a graduate of animal management and now a student of animal behaviour, this is a book that I could certainly recommend.

"The Domestic Dog, its evolution, behaviour and interactions with people" edited by the great James Serpell is certainly one reference book you should not be without.

After the Introduction, the book is divided into 3 parts: Domestication and Evolution, Behaviour and Behaviour Problems and Human-dog interaction.

Each of these parts has chapters ... Read More:

'This Is Your Brain On Music' looks at the neuroscience behind listening to and performing music. Although I've read many popular science books and am familiar with the style of writing, I found this to be quite a hard going book at first. The first couple of chapters look at the structure of music and are quite dry to plow though. If you know music theory this will cover familiar ground and if you don't I'm sorry to say that this is a laboured way of gaining that understanding. However after you ... Read More:

Books : Influence: Science and Practice
I'm not in marketing, but I found this book both fascinating and revealing. We were actually presented with a copy each on a "Communicating with Passion" course I went on, because it is so helpful in understanding human behaviour.

Not only does it allow the salesman/marketer to understand techniques on how to get people to do what you want, it also allows you, the "victim" to understand ways in which a salesman is trying to influence YOU, and this is what makes it such as good book. I can now spot ... Read More:

Spiral Dynamics provides a framework within which to analyse a whole range of subjects. Together with Ken Wilber, Spiral Dynamics shows a way to reconcile a whole range of issues in society, management and psychology. Beck and Cowan describe 8 levels of human ideas or vMemes that drive the world. The levels are heirarchical - higher levels transcend and include lower levels in the way that Wilber describes. Once I understand what vMeme an idea is based in I can understand what drives it and where it is going. Then I can see why ... Read More:

I am sorry, I really do not understand the other reviews for this book. This is the original book on Time Line Therapy, but, I am afraid, I do not like it at all. The Time Line Therapy scripts are out of date, and I find the stuff on meta-programs and values immensely tedious. There is much better coverage of all this elsewhere. This is one of the worst (of many) NLP books I have read.

I first encountered Myers-Briggs 15 years ago via managament training (age 21) and "Individual Excellence" by Ralph Lewis and Phil Lowe. It had been lurking somewhere at the back of my mind all this time until I encountered this book by chance at work.

With what I had learned about life in the intevening 15 years, this book was a revelation revealing to me the full power and richness of the Meyers-Briggs / Jung model.

I can fully understand the reviewers who found this book to be not so good (for them). I found it to ... Read More:

This book cleverly and simply leads you through, chapter by chapter, a diagnostic process that is both simple and engaging.
It pulls together several concepts into a useful model and will become a well used tool for working with clients.
As I work on my case study, this book will be an invaluable aid and will become as well thumbed as this duo's previous book TA Today.
The great thing about their writing is that they make it readable for both novice and expert. I often recommend their previous title to clients which is an indication ... Read More:

If you have ever felt anti-social or 'faulty', just because you like being alone, I urge you to buy this book. It really makes you appreciate just how much we are still in an age of 'mob mentality', and how much pressure there is for everyone to be part of this 'mob'(as Rufus calls them). Loners really are treated like weirdos, freaks, and even worse, as potentially dangerous.

Because Loners are a misunderstood minority, the super sociable majority will always criticize, and try to 'cure' them. In the same way fundamentalist Christians ... Read More:
