| After seeing the first episode of her new BBC series, I bought the book as I love cooking and Chinese food, but had always been apprehensive about making it at home. Excellent step by step instructions, and a wealth of recipes of wonderfully tasty food. A great companion to the series. |

| The Forgotten Garden is a fantastic read, it has all the things that make up for a good juicy story, with family mysteries and secretes.
twists and turns leaving you on the edge of the set, I found it very hard to put this book down and like another review also found myself still reading to the wee hours! | I disagree with many of the other reviews. I read it while recovering from an operation and found it hit the spot perfectly. A clever plot coming at the detective novel from a different angle, it was a wonderful light summer read. I read it in a few hours. Yes I guessed the ending but that didnt detract from my general enjoyment. If you are looking for something not too taxing for the beach this summer, or even as a gift for someone not feeling too well I dont think you could go far wrong. Will definitely look out ... | Sadie Jones's moving story of young Lewis's struggle with the emotional crippling delivered by family events and (quoting another review) "communal failure to take responsibility for a troubled child" is both absorbing and beautifully written, without any sentimentality. | I enjoyed this novel so much that when I was three quarters of the way through I went back to the beginning and started again! Tremain is an excellent writer. Her prose is full of colourful images and she has an eye for the quirky, the absurd, which makes for an entertaining read. In this tale the line between tragedy and comedy is finely walked. Lev is a beguiling hero - in many ways brave and admirable, but also flawed. His story is sad, sometimes brutal, but always handled with compassion. This novel could easily be read as a ... | I have very mixed feelings about this book.
For a start, there are a couple of obvious mistakes, including the reference (page 102) to someone being like a "villain in an Abbott and Costello film". This book is set in 1928/29 and yet Abbott and Costello didn't work together until 1935! Another (page 106) talks about a parlour game "in which you wrote the name of somebody famous on a strip of paper and stuck it on your forehead. The others had to guess who you were". | The first book to get me back into reading - extremely innovative, Zusak is an amazing writer; empathetically and very gracefully written, "The Book Thief" is easy to follow and will not fail to move you. Devastatingly beautiful. |

| Brilliant. Extremely well written with sentences that you want to re-read to relish the taste of them in your mouth. Well reserached and with interesting anecdotes as well as facts. Puts the late 20th century (and the first years of the 21st) into its historical context. I found it un-put-downable. |

| Such a thought-provoking, yet enjoyable story with great insights into life in Kabul before the Russians invaded and also after when the Taliban took hold. The characters and the events that unfolded in this book will not be easily forgotten by myself and I cried at a couple of points in the story - something I very rarely do at literature. I hope you will love this book too. |
