| I was really looking forward to this, having heard so much praise. I guess I missed something, but I was expecting a really deep, complex story, like so many reviews and articles had described, and didn't find anything of the sort. The artwork's flawless, but the story really did nothing for me, especially the Joker's back story, which seems to be the most raved about part. | Ash's story is hinted at throughout the other books and he finally gets his own book. The trouble with this book is that is it very, very long and the first part dealing with Ash's history and detailing his many and varies abuses is especially so. I understand the concept that the past shapes the present, but being exposed to every violent and horrific act perpetrated on Ash desinsitises the reader to the extent that you become inured to it almost. | Whilst this book resolves all plot lines and manages to bring to an end a complex story with multiple interwoven plot lines, it does so at the cost of style and flair, with the books written structure becoming a vehicle for presenting plot lines rather than a structure that was in any way enjoyable to read.
Other than to finish reading the series I cannot recommend this book. Indeed on balance after the first 3 or 4 of the series, the books become tedious and onerous to read, therefore I would not recommend starting it. |
