| This is not a bad book. Actually, I'm ok with having bought it here at Amazon. However, that was not my impression when I started in the first chapter; I thought "oh no, not again, another book of a wannabe self-proclaimed "guru"". From chapter 3 onwards it became better, but I have one serious problem with this book: I do understand Cialdini is an academic, but I really wish he would stop cluttering up the text with all these side steps to academic research; it's annoying. | This is a great book. If you're interested in human behaviour and psychology this is a great book for you to read. The downside to the book is that he trys to use words used in psychology in the book to make it sound better. But it actually does the opposite - makes it sound worse. If you think you can get past all the words that he uses then buy it, if you don't think you can then don't.

| Fairly well written, and as someone who has no prior background in this field, it was easy to understand and descriptive enough to be interesting. it was not too technical that i got bogged down with terms, unlike some other neurology books i've read. |

| A great contribution to the debate from Stephen Richards. Most of us CO devotees have to put up with the odd jibe from friends about being nuts in planning our futures by the stars. | This is the best non-fiction book you are likely to read this year.
I was attracted to this book because I have been in bad car accidents and two hotel fires, once had the airplane window near me break during a flight, designed the plan for an event where the safety team saved two children's lives, and have driven through many dangerous blizzards where every other car was spinning off the road out of control. | I read this book hoping it would be just as the title described it "a cheerful book about depression".
Personally, I didnt find it that cheerful and it read like one long poetic metaphor. As an autobiography into a depressed poets life, I found it very interesting and some of the symptoms described I could defintily relate to. But if you are looking for a self-help book this is not it, there are far too many long and complex quotes for a depressed mind to read. An o.k read just a bit too much of the same information throughout. |

Somehow I identified with all of the life-traps and so therapy beckons? The more I read the more any optimism I'd held began to evapourate. Hopefully though anyone who wishes to adopt the steps to change their lives has fewer schemas than I, even with one life-trap it would take grinding hard work to escape from it. However, nothing worthwhile came easy, so keep expectations low and success will come your way. An interesting view into our behaviours and their origins. |
