| This is a fantastic book for both parents and researchers new to autism. Nothing is 'dumbed down' but Baron-Cohen writes in a very readable, engaging style that, even if you know nothing about the subject of autism, will make you want to solve its so far very elusive mystery.
Highly recommended, along with Baron-Cohen's other books in the area ('The Essential Difference' is very good if you want to explore the gender aspect further, something Baron-Cohen introduces in the book) |

| At last a text for UK students which focuses in a clear concise way on psychopathology issues from a European perspective! Excellent use of case studies and a very informative DVD accompany the text. The change in terms from abnormal to psychopathology is welcome and de-stigmatises the all too damaging stereotyping of mental health. |

| As this book is aimed at professionals I was very weary of buying it. There is always the fear that such books will pay too much heed to genetics and so become very depressing. Fortunately, the authors tend to believe that environment, upbringing, and the attitudes we hold are the main triggers of depression and this can be overcome using cognitive behavour therapy (CBT).
