| As an A Level psychology student using both the AS and A2 versions, i feel that i am eligible to comment.
There are so many other text books out there that would better equip studets with the knowledge needed to pass exams. Fair enough, the descriptions of subtopics are thorough. However, the commentary (evaluation) boxes, rather pretentiously, go all around the houses, and do not explain evaluative points concisively. | I've owned this book for a matter of days but have been disappointed. I'm a psychology degree student. Most recent essay - "Consciousness". However, terms like "Access Consciousness; Phenomenal Consciousness; Monitoring Consciousness and Self-Consciousness" are not included. The term "pseudoseizure" is omitted...to name just a handful of words I've tried to look up. I was also disappointed by some of the definitions, finding them too vague. It will be invaluable to anyone in or entering the field in dealing with the ethical dilemmas we all have to face with our clients. | Nice dictionary for the price but many words I have looked up are just not there. If you are new to the subject perhaps give this one a miss, but if you have been studying the subject for some time and are looking for your first dictionary go for it. |

| Janet B misses the whole premise. Feelings are of course a response to the world around us, but between the sensory perception of an event in the world and the feeling that results comes a thought - often unnoticed. That thought is based on our beliefs and values and the way we view the world. All CBT asks us to do is to review those beliefs and values objectively and judge whether they are valid.
This book is simplistic and doesn't explain the core concepts of CBT as well as it might, but that doesn't detract from their validity. |

It is very nicely written, clear, easy to understand and very enjoyable to read provided that you are interested in the topic. The diagrams and pictures are in color, of high quality and very informative. The whole book is full of many such high quality pictures. The explanations are scientific and based on sound research. | Most people aren't crazy about this book but have to buy it because it is required- in other words, people buy this book because they have to use the format and style it discusses in order to write and submit a paper. Other than that, I don't know who else would go out of their way to buy this thing. It's thick and not thumb indexed the best. Other psychological books readers may benefit from include The Sixty-Second Motivator. |
