| Gina Ford's understanding of the neurobiological impact of her "teachings" is almost as good as my understanding of the trade cycle. I am quite certain that all babies submitted to her Stalinist regime stop crying. Wouldn't you if noone ever came to comfort you? But what are such children being taught about their parents' ability to "hold" them emotionally? And about emotion in general? |

| This is not a bad book, it is very comprehensive and well written, so it is fun to read and contains useful information. It seems intended to be read through more than as a reference book.
However, in my opinion it is a bit too much. The information overloads the reader and then it is difficcult to remember the key things a new mom has to have in mind.It would suit you if you have a control freak side and want to know absolutelly everything about -1 yr old babies. | I made the mistake of buying this book. As with other Gina Ford books if your child doesn't conform to her regime you feel inadequate and disappointed. She advises on day one (after they have proved they can do wee and poos on potty) to confine toddler in one room all day and repeatedly put them on the potty!! No way! I think I lasted half an hour and I got cabin fever. I found "No-cry Potty Training Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Child Say Good-bye to Diapers" by Elizabeth Pantley far more helpful and reassuring. ... Read More: |

| Like many people who have not read her books, I approached a Gina Ford book with caution - but the things said about her writing are not borne out by this book. I found it very useful as a good guide to when and how to introduce solids. The recipes are very quick and easy and my baby likes them. As with any advice book you need to apply your own common sense and not get hung up on following it to the letter. | I felt completely depressed when pregnant with my second son when I read this book! Mr Biddulph basically tells you that, as a mother, you are important to your sons till they reach five, then you can basically forget it, as you will always be of secondary importance to them compared to their fathers and you should just get on with doing their laundry and cooking them the odd meal or two!

Even if you don't follow her advice it is superbly reassuring and makes you realise that there are millions of parents with night-time feeders and wakeful children. I have huge issues with 'crying down' and it is something I would not advise or 'sign-up' to with my baby. | Just as all other Gina books this one follows on fantastically from the Contented Baby book. Just as you start to worry about the toddler years here is the book with all the answers to keep you calm and confident. Very helpful book that Im constantly referring to for different stages of my sons development, filled with loads of advise and tips. My son is a happy confident toddler with a happy contented family around him, what more could you ask for!

| This is a book to turn to for help on every aspect of parenting small children. It's well laid out, easy to find specific information, and concise without being dry. It covers everything from developmental stages, to healthy eating (including recipe ideas), childhood diseases, immunisation and first aid, helping your child develop ethics and good values. It's a hefty tome, reflecting a vast amount of knowledge gathered by the two authors over many years, and it was my crutch!

| I bought this just a few weeks before my first baby was born at the end of last year, I found the first couple of chapters on general baby care and newborn very useful but then as the months went by, Gina seems to imply your baby 'should' be doing this and that and I sometimes felt that my baby didnt measure up to her exacting standards and her patronising tones made me feel inadequate as a first time mother.
