| Fairly well written, and as someone who has no prior background in this field, it was easy to understand and descriptive enough to be interesting. it was not too technical that i got bogged down with terms, unlike some other neurology books i've read. |

| Some of the stories are sad because of the devastating conditions but some are also inspiring because of how some of the people find a way of making life still worthwhile. In this collection I was particularly struck in this regard by the first and the last. I think Sacks gives back as much as a person is able to in his position. | This is an excellent book, unfortunately for me the paperback is printed on cheap, smelly paper which makes me feel ill when I read it. I ordered the hardcover, but was sent another paperback. I returned the paperback and asked for a hardcover, another paperback arrived. Summary: If you want a copy of this book and have any allergies or breathing problems, I recommend getting a hardcover, but not the one that Amazon sells, because they'll just send you a paperback. |

| I once saw a documentary about a couple whose daughter was deaf, and they were agonizing about whether to go ahead and have a complex and risky procedure performed which might restore some hearing for their child. I couldn't understand why the father's brother, who was himself profoundly deaf, was so upset that they were even considering this operation. | After some years ago reading Sacks classic `The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat `I was keen to read something else. His biography seemed to be an intriguing option. Sadly I was very disappointed with this book. Although the title hints at an involvement with chemistry I did not expect the book to be almost entirely about chemistry and its history.
