| I almost gave up on this book, I struggled with it for a while. Once I had got into it I could'nt put it down! It was totally different, narrated by Death, who at times could be a real softie. Liesel goes to live with foster parents, the Hubermanns during WW2,she makes friends with Rudy, she loves and steals books, and the Hubermanns take in a jew called Max, who they hide in the basement. | Having read and delighted in The Book Thief, I thought that I would give I am the Messenger a go. I was in Oz at the time and so the setting was perfect. It truly is a read in one sitting book. It may have been written for young adults but is a book that all can take from. |

| Having read and delighted in The Book Thief, I thought that I would give I am the Messenger a go. I was in Oz at the time and so the setting was perfect. It truly is a read in one sitting book. It may have been written for young adults but is a book that all can take from. |

| At first I found this book irritating as I got used to the unusual narrative style and the page layout. However after about 50 pages or so you are drwn into the world of Liesel (The book Thief) and her surrogate family and friends. The book runs to over 500 pages and I read it in a little under 2 days so that gives an idea of how engrossing it is.
