The title says it all, this book is GREAT. Whether you are a first time mum wanting a bible or are looking for the ideal present for a mother to be, this has got to be it. I have not yet found another book that is so thorough, reassuring, practical, unbiased or (believe it or not) entertaining as this one. It will save you trips to the pediatrician, reassure and help you with practical problems, give guidance on baby's development, in short, there is not an area or issue, however obscure, that hasn't ... This is a book to turn to for help on every aspect of parenting small children. It's well laid out, easy to find specific information, and concise without being dry. It covers everything from developmental stages, to healthy eating (including recipe ideas), childhood diseases, immunisation and first aid, helping your child develop ethics and good values. It's a hefty tome, reflecting a vast amount of knowledge gathered by the two authors over many years, and it was my crutch!

I was given this book by a friend and can honestly say I so pleased that they gave it to me. You can skip sections and come back to areas that you are unsure of. It has questions by people in the same situation and answers them clearly.

I was concerned about a few of the myths surrounding the birth- for example my waters breaking whilst still at work or in the middle of the supermarket....but the book actually puts things in perspective.

Having a pregnancy that resulted in seeing a consultant ... Read More:

These 2 books are by far the best ones I have read. Someone gave me them as a present and I have since bought them for all my friends who have had children. They answer all the questions you can possibly think of - and believe me, I had a lot! Very down-to-earth, solid, practical advice and a month by month analysis of what to expect.
If you are thinking of buying a pregnancy/baby book this gift set would be my first choice.

Books : What to Expect When You're Expecting
I wish I hadn't bought this book. It has a lot of information, but
it's hard to sort out what's widely agreed on and what's just the
opinion of the book's authors. After doing a fair bit of research I
see that a lot is the latter, and some of it is pretty way out. There
is an assumption that you will do what your doctor (sic: not midwife)
says, without question, and even that you should assume you need
permission for everything, e.g. it says that you might like music
while you are in labour "if the doctor allows"! Typical of the tone is
that homebirth ... Read More:
