Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Incredible dancing and that's what matters
Step Up 2 is not the type of film you watch because you want to be blown away by an incredible story, or incaptivated by an actors daring yet rewarding portrayal of a character - it's not something you'll choose because you know that afterwards you'll never see the world in the same way again, you won't be inspired to be a better person, this film won't even make you cry. You watch Step Up 2 for one reason alone - and that is the incredible dancing that no dance film has ever seen the likes of.

The story is something along these lines - Andie is part of a dance crew called the 410 who periodically take to the streets to be a menace and post the videos of their actions up on the internet. She's being brought up by her mothers friend who's had enough with her involvement with the crew and wants to send her to live with her aunt. Tyler manages to convince Andie that she should join the MSA and after a 'unique' audition and a lot of words of support from Chase Collins (who is something like an MSA legend) she gets the place. She finds it difficult to adjust with the school's style of dancing and due to all the extra hours she's putting in she gets kicked off her crew. Chase, seeing how down this has made her decides to help her put together a new crew, full of MSA students, determined to battle in out at the streets (an illegal dance competition), but will they be accepted into the competiton when the 410 are determined to make their lives hell?

The cast are all primarily dancers before actors, though I can't see what professional actors could have done differently - the script and story are to blame for the faults of the film, not the actors who I believe done the best they could with what they were given. The soundtrack was perfect - the kind of songs that make you want to get up off your seat though you're watching a film, and if it weren't for the dancing you cannot take your eyes off of then you probably would. The choreography was inventive, daring, and very, very good and the dancers were faultless. Robert Hoffman and Adam Sevani have definatley got very promising futures ahead of them.

I like this film, I saw it twice in the cinema because it is a fun film a good way to spend two hours of an evening when theres nothing else to do. This will never be one of the greatest films ever made, but it is a wicked little dance film with some of the best dancing I've ever seen and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this kind of thing.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Really Good
Obviously designed for the younger generation, Step Up 2: The Streets is a well choreographed and fast paced movie that has less of the drama of the first, but a lot more of the message, 'It's not what you have, it's what you make of what you have'.

The storyline was lacking a lot after the first, but I found the dancing and the rawness of this film a lot better than the first.
It seems a lot less polished than the first also (Perhaps due to style of dance or new directing), but nethertheless it's a good film.
The dance scene at the end was truly something and much better than anything in Step Up, although the rain involved played a big part im this.

Overall, Storyline, a lot more basic than first but dance scenes a lot better than first (In my Opinion). The biggest compliment i can give is that straight after watching this film, me and one of my girlfriends got up and started to dance, checking out all the hip-hop and dance videos on youtube. Check it out and it just may inspire you!

(There are other dance groups pieces for the street battle as extras on the disc aswell.)

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - just not as good as the first one
Step Up 2 The Streets [2008]

was disappointed with this movie music was very different and not actually that much dancing.... but hey watch it and decide for yourself.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - "Step up 2" is less than "Step up"
Andie is on a downward slope after her mother's death, she's skipping school, staying out late, and part of a crew - the 410 - whose subway prank ends up on the evening news. The result is an ultimatum from her guardian: move to her aunt's place in Texas or join MSA. - And so the very street Andie finds her way to the polished floors of MSA. What follows is: Andie is kicked out of the 410 and starts her own crew with Chase, MSA royalty.

"Step up 2" is all about being yourself and not being afraid to dance your own dance, which is a great message. The dancing is awesome, but there really isn't that much focus on it. The best dance sequence is a barbecue party with salsa. The dance finale at the end is more about the rain pouring down than the dancing. Also, it is evident that Chase is the better dancer compared to Andie.

I have to admit that "Step up 2" doesn't meet the high standards set in "Step up". It's less in every way. Still, "Step up 2" is a nice dance movie - the soundtrack is edgy and great.

My advice: don't expect too much.

Louise.
