Rating:
- Now thats what I call Sci-fi The first volume of Heroes gripped me. All 23 episodes had drama, sadness and violence. Hiro, Ando, Peter, Nathan, Claire, Bennit, Matt, Isacc, Angelia, Nikki, Jessica, Micah, DCL and of course Slayer and Linderman were perfect for the role. The first half of Gensis was about the Heroes discoving there power and doing their own jobs until they all meet. Then in part 2 it was time to save the cheeleader and save the world. Of course they done that but have they saved the world from a nuclear bomb in New York. In part 3 we saw the bennit family crushing down and we meet Linderman the manwho had the answers. And Hiro stealing the sword away from Linderman. And then the season finaly. Linderman Dead. Matt Shot, Hiro stabbing Syler then teleporting to 17th Japan. And Peter and Nathen flow up then KA-BOM. And with Claire in disgut. And a sneak peack of Hiro in 17th Japan for volume two genratious. It's the best US Sci-fi drama you ever see. Rating: - Great series but disappointing endingI'm a fan of series like heroes (i enjoyed Smallville, Stargate etc) Although it was slow to start I felt it became better and better each week. The story helped to build the character's backgrounds, all of which were intriguing apart from the blonde woman with two personalities. I feel my only problem with this series was it was building to something epic, and in the end it ended quite quickly. Still a great series but it could have ended so much better. I feel the future series will only be better. Rating: - No spandex please!!When I first heard about this television series, I heard it was the next 'Lost' and that it would be the next phenomenon of the television world. Sadly, I didnt think it lived upto the hype and overall the first episodes were a dissapointment. Although I was very uninspired with 'Heroes' I continued to watch but wasnt too annoyed if I missed an episode. Towards the end of the first season I had developed a passing interest in the programe and I was bordering on actually enjoying it. Finally when the season finale' came ... I had to be in to watch it. Whilst I dont think its anywhere near as good as 'Lost' .... Heroes is still good .... to a certain degree. In the end I found that I liked it enough to look forward to the second season. Rating: - Sci-fi TV at its peakAlthough Ive never been fully induldged in sci-fi, this intriguing series was borrowed from a friend who rated it extremely highly and I must say, I wasnt disappointed. Heroes follows the lives of different people who possess hidden powers ranging from reading minds to flying. Each character is cleverely written to express different emotions towards their powers. Some are afraid, some embrace it and others use their powers for personal or impersonal gain. The set-up is simple to begin with and slowly unravels as the series goes on to a much deeper, darker and complicated plot line. The one thing that really makes this series stand out among so many other attempted tries at this kind of genre are the characters. 12 writers worked on this show and each character overlaps with others and what starts out as a few seemingly coincidental meetings unravels to show that it was 'destiny' and as the series gets to the climax, more and more of the characters are thrust together. To give anything away from the series would be spoilers in their own right but another reviewer suggested watching this series through twice to grasp everything in the fast-paced series that swoops from one question to another each episode. Watching this show on TV is nowhere near as enjoyable as sitting watching 4 or 5 episodes back to back so this DVD is ideal. However, despite how amazing this show really is, there are a few things that although not very relevant or hindering to the experience, should be noted anyway. The pilot episode that was never aired is not worth watching. The plot is changed slightly and includes a group of terrorists instead of the main antagonist which, if it was aired, would ruin the entire series. The scenes with the terrorists are boring and slow the pace to such a degree that you may find yourself skipping through it. A minor point but worth noting. The Niki/Jessica plot line feels odd and out of place in line with the inter-woven stories of the rest of the heroes and is overall a bore to watch, darkening the mood to such an extent that just feels out of place. Even the climax to this story feels rushed and odd in line with the story as a whole. (For those who havent watched series 3 this will not make sense so I do apologize) --------------------SPOILERS----------------- Isaac's ability to paint the future, although very important to the first series, just seems to me to be such an important 'gift' that it doesnt make sense to kill him off. This is evident in series 3 where Matt Parkman and the African dude can both paint the future just simply listening to music. ------------------END OF SPOILERS--------------- Apart freom these minor issues, this series is one of, if not THE best series Ive ever watched to date. If you like fast-paced action, sci-fi, drama, brilliant characters with intriguing stories (apart from Niki), an excellent plot-line that raises questions on evolution or just anything to sink your teeth into that you wont be able to put down, BUY THIS NOW! For 25 quid just look at the running time if you're not convinced. SEVEN HUNDRED MINUTES approximate running time for the whole series. You cant go wrong really. Rating: - I need a Hero!Having never been caught up by the show when it first started, I was in the position of being able to sit down with Season 1 (and 2) without having seen anything more than a few trailers. Well, this show stole my life for a few days. It's the kind of thing you watch last thing at night and, if you can, put straight back on first thing in the morning: it's almost painfully compulsive. But does that make it any good? An addictive show isn't necessarily a good one, after all. Well, despite it's flaws, Heroes is brilliant. It's an ensemble show, with many different characters across the world weaving in and out of each other's lives. The main problem with this is that you will inevitably like some characters more than others. Personally, Hiro's moments were my favourite, whilst I found my attention slipping with Claire. However, I will say that even my least liked characters are far from awful, and there's not one weak link in the chain. I love the show's sci-fi and comic-book stylings, and how they've put into a pseudo-realistic setting, and it's refreshing to see such genres get a mainstream audience. Whilst the superpower element of the show often plays second fiddle to the dramatic side, this is arguably a good thing, giving 'Heroes' a real grounding that people can relate to. However, I often find with American serials like 'Lost' that there's a kind of reluctance to really push the plot along, and instead opts for too much pondering, character quandary and raising too many questions without answers, and when you do get an answer, it just raises more questions. Unfortunately, 'Heroes' falls prey of this too, but it's not to the same extent as 'Lost'. It can be a bit indirect and abstract in providing answers, and doesn't really gain much by doing so, but it does ultimately all follow a logic, the pacing does shift along smoothly, and a question raised 10 episodes ago will be answered if you look hard enough. Painful for the casual viewer, maybe, but if you're buying the DVD, repeat viewings anlock things you missed before, and only add to it's value. Heroes comes highly recommended, but prepare to be consumed by it. It requires concentration, repeat viewings and sharp eyes, and even the most perceptive of viewers won't get it all at once. But don't get me wrong: when all is said and done, it's hugely, hugely enjoyable. |
