Rating: - Docx format is a real pain, why change it?
Why have Microsoft come up with a new format (docx instead of doc)? This is a real pain for users who send documents to other users who aren't using Office 2007. Most schools can't afford to upgrade their site licences every time a new version of a product is issued so they continue to use older versions (which work very well). Students saving work in docx format will find it difficult to open documents at school without a converter.
As an school IT techie it's driving me mad! Day in day out we have a steady stream of students and teachers with precious homework which won't open.

I don't understand the rationale behind the change and I see firsthand the frustration it causes. For the time being stick to Office 2003, it's a good product with none of the problems of 2007.

Rating: - Impressive
As other people have commented, it's a pity that Microsoft has not included Outlook in this package. However, the improvements to Word are significant and make this edition worth the outlay.

Rating: - A Huge Disappointment
I was very disappointed with this Office 2007 "so called" upgrade from Office 2000. The "Normal.dot" templates are not updated, so any macros, autotext and styles created in earlier versions are not supported and updated. These need to be redone - a complete waste of time. The main menus have all but disappeared and have been replaced with a "ribbon". The scrolling marquee signature I used in Outlook 2000 no longer works, and the default date format in Word that I chose does not display when I press ENTER. All I see is 24 September 2007-9-24. Who in the right mind would want to see this? If I don't press the spare bar, before the RETURN key, I see a garbled date appear as stated above. In my opinion, this is change for change sake, rather than a creditable upgrade. In other words a "retrograde". I wish I'd upgrade to Office 2003 instead.

Rating: - No problems whatsoever
The MS Office 2007 HSE package containing Word, Excel and Powerpoint is a good value buy at around 90 pounds and with a license to load onto three machines. Whilst I would not consider it a must have upgrade from the 1997 version, it is certainly worth shelling out for if you need an office type suite. The visuals are attractive and new menu is far easier to drive then the old one - some of the more obscure commands are definitely easier to find. Frequent users of the old style interface no doubt will argue against the changes, but for most people in a direct comparison the 2007 version is just plain better. And it works without any hitches whatsoever.

Rating: - Not very impressed
As an IT trainer, I have to keep up-to-date with all versions of Office so I got a copy of 2007. First impressions are not favourable. I can't see any appreciable advantage over the 2003 version. The cosmetic changes to the menu layouts etc just make it awkward to use and the garish colour scheme a la windows Vista just distracts from the work in hand.

On my work PC and Mac I will continue to use the 2003 & 2004 versions. I will have to keep the 2007 version to produce teaching stuff but that's about all I will use it for....
