Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - MS Office 2007
In a world of increasing competition from open source competitors, its refreshing to see Microsoft re-thinking there interface and come out with something better. Yes the layout has changed, but if your willing to adapt you'll find the ribbon easy to handle.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Much improved
I can only assume that some of the negative reviews come from the terminally change-resistant, as Office 2007 is a vast improvement on its predecessor. Yes, it takes a while (i.e. a few short hours) to get used to the new interface, but that interface is much more intuitive and more accessible than the old one. In fact, Microsoft seems to have listened to its critics and designed something truly user-friendly. While, of course, there are things that could be improved further, this is a big step forwards.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - wow
this is tyhe real deal.
simpler to use
fabulous upgrade.
dont understand someone rantingb about keyboard menus as they all seem the same , just a more user friendly ribbon.
MS OFFICE still the best by far

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Save your time and stick with Word 2003
The only part of MS Office I use is Word, and as an experienced Word user, Word 2007 is a complete nightmare.

When you first install it, it is unrecognisable and took me ages just to find the usual shortcuts and customise it to how I like it. The new 'Ribbon' which replaces the toolbar is one of the most cumbersome and useless additions to any Microsoft programme, but fortunately it can be removed. However, because MS have re-named and re-categorised most of the commands, it takes ages to find everything again and try and remember what certain command buttons are called. I accept that the grouping of commands was not entirely logical in the old Word, but at least people were familiar with it, the new one makes no more sense anyway.

I might just be being pedantic, but some of the minor changes also really annoy me. For example, the 'normal' template now uses some random font in size 11 as the default, instead of Times New Roman in 12 - I know it can be changed (which I have), but its bloody annoying. It also auto-saves files as Word2007 .docx, as supposed to .doc files - so you need to download a converter to run Word 07 files on an old version of Word - again, this can be changed. But why why why have they messed around with this stuff anyway, it was fine before!!!!!!

I could go on about how much Word 07 annoys me, but I'll let you find out for yourselves. Anyway, i've stuck with it and now have it working relatively well again (although occasionally I have to find some random command that has been re-named). On the plus side, it looks a bit nicer than the old Word and the 'Symbols' button has a small drop-down command. This hardly makes up for the bad points though!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - No complaints from occasional user.
I've had Office 97 on my home PCs for years - only really using Word and Excel for personal stuff. Recently I have been required to use Office 2003 at work, so I thought I should update to 2007. After an hour of familiarising myself with 'the Ribbon', I was totally converted. I now find it easier to use than 97 and can see the logic behind the different tab groupings.

The reviews from the power users are, perhaps, understandable; if you know 2003 inside and out, why change? But I don't see the problem with the new .docx format as conversion is a button click away. Also any .doc opened is saved in its original format unless you choose otherwise. All in all a great product and lots of help from the web site.
