Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - helpfull book
this book is brilliant. It is layed out in a way you can read from beging to end or just pick-up and read the bits you wont.I told my friend about it and she was pleased with it as well. The humour in it makes it. This is the best book for bringing up your toddler.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great reference, but not gospel!
There is so much commonsense in here. If I wasn't so exhausted I probably could have thought it out for myself, but i was tired, anxious and feeling like a failing mother.
This book goes a little into the psychology of a toddler, looks at studies that have taken place with toddlers, aswell as giving ideas on what to do in tantrum situations, and with nasty habits that our toddlers can pick up.
As with any book, it is up to the reader to decide what you want to use and what you don't. And as with any book on childcare there are bound to be parts you don't agree with, and i think some people will read more into sections than is appropriate, but that is always going to be danger with the written word when you cannot physically ask the author.
If you're a parent who's happy to let your child go through the various nasty habits toddlers have without doing anything, even gaining an awareness of the why's and wherefor's, this book is not for you. But if you are a concerned parent, who would like to raise a happy child that people enjoy spending time with, in a happy home, then this book is atleast worth a read

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - overly simplistic. not much help.
'This simple and friendly' appraoch i found to be patronising. Overly simplistic for anyone who has half an ounce of common sense when it comes to children.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - essential reading for all sadists
This man actually advises his readers to tie a child's door shut with rope so that the parents can be spared the inconvenience of parenting their children if they want to sleep in! He also recommends that you sedate your child (I'm not kidding) if you need a 'safety valve' when your child doesn't go to sleep quickly enough!

God save us from such evil doers!

If such selfish, callous, shortsighted advice sounds good to you, here's your book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Practical info, lovely tone...lot of humor and compassion
This book is an easy-to-read, uplifting guide that builds a parent's confidence while relieving numerous anxieties. The author addresses many of the major challenges parents face in the first 5 years raising their toddlers. His humor is much appreciated along with the common sense, very practical advice. It is very reassuring to know that you are not the only mum with concerns and occasional regrets. The author is very knowlegeable and understanding. He seems to be "on your side" with suggestions rather than "on your back" with criticism and demands of what is the only correct thing to do. This book has been a wonderful source of support that has helped our family calm down and get along better. For more specific practical suggestions written exclusively for parenting a 2, 3, 4, and 5 year-old, I also wish to highly recommend "The Pocket Parent." This A-Z quick read reference has similar upbeat, practical advice addressing many more annoying behavior issues like bad words, bedtime and mealtime refusals, hitting and hurting others (including the new baby), "moring crazies", interrupting, whining and "parent deafness." Both of these books are filled with practical advice, humor and compassion that helped me to make better choices disciplining and communicating more effectively with my young children.
