Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not as Great as People think and not a new Concept
I read the book but found some of the information contradictory and in some places lacked explanation and guidance. Yes it talks a lot about the workings of the human body and the reasons as to why reducing carbohydrate intake will mean weight loss but this is not a new concept. I work in a Medical School working along side some of the worlds most leading medical researchers, clinicians and health organisations and one main area of interest which our medical school investigates into is improved health whether this be in diet, exercise, work and region of living (the type of work you do and were you live has just as much impact on your health as diet and exercise do). I spoke to them about the book and they all more or less said the same thing, yes the author will say that the diet works because in theory it does as does all diets but in practice it somewhat different, the author also has to convince the reader in order to sell the book hence the physiological profile of repeatedly telling you that the diet will work! My husband tried the Atkins diet but found it a little difficult as his 2 main love of foods (bread & potato's) had to be excluded and the breakfast was very repetitive (eggs, eggs and more eggs) so he moved on to the High Protein diet which is very similar to the Atkins but allows for 1 slice of bread a-day and a more varied breakfast. As I was also looking to loose a few pounds which I seemed to have mysteriously gained since the birth of our daughter, despite the fact that my diet had changed very little, I thought that I would join him even though I had grave reservations especially as this was my first experience of a diet but we agreed we both needed to loss a little weight(he need to loose 1 1/2 stone and I 9lbs). Result, YES I shed 9lbs in less than 3wks but did I stick rigidly to the diet NO I did not. I made up my own variation allowing the best of Atkins and the High Protein into my set daily meals I also attributed some of the weight loss to the fact that I returned to work after being on maternity for 12mths. High Protein diet allows for a slightly higher carb intake than the Atkins (I increased the carb intake from 20 to between 60-100g just over ¼ or ½ of the RDI for carbs that is 230g as suggested by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition 2004). High Protein diet allows for a varied breakfast, this stopped repetitiveness, High Protein allows one slice of bread so at least you get at least one staple food to accompany a meal, Atkins allows for more side vegetables increasing the carb intake allowed for a better selection of veg making a main meal more enjoyable, Atkins allows for a small range of desserts (I limited this to once a week as a treat, everyone deserves at least 1 treat a week or what's the point). All meals were homemade (this is something that my husband and I do anyway) with the rare times of a take-way on a Friday. My husband followed my method of diet and he found that he enjoyed it a lot more, lost weight and better still he did not feel he was on a diet. Prior to this he felt hungry, occasionally faint or shaky due to lack of sugar levels and occasionally snacked. More importantly he has not increased his weight since he finished the diet. At the end of the day by simply reducing how often you eat rice, pasta, potatoes and bread and reducing how much alcohol you take you will automatically see a reduction in your weight. As the old saying goes `Everything in Moderation' and eat `little and often' human beings were not designed to eat 3 square meals a-day and Never consume more than you burn by obeying these simple rules you should in theory never need to diet again. Would I recommend anyone buying this book NO this same information is available FREE on the Internet or at your local health organisation.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Only for fatties
I tried this diet for a week and put on half a kilo. I have come to a few conclusions. If, like me, you are not actually fat but would like to lose 3 to 4 kilos I don't think this is the way to go. I think the high protein works but I don't feel it necessary to cut the carbs so drastically. After all, we need dairy and I really missed milk in my tea. I saw on Catalyst some time back that people who ate more protein actually ate less because they felt fuller for longer. It really is basic maths - you must burn off more than you consume. It would probably work for fatties because it would get them into healthier eating habits.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - After 4 years and loads of diets, this is the only one that worked!
I bought this book as a last-ditch attempt to lose the 2 stone I have slowly gained over 4 years. I was a carb-craving chocolate addict, and the thought of being hungry made me SO depressed! This book explained simply how a low-carb high-protein diet works. It took me a few days to 'get the idea', and the first day was awful. Headache and tiredness, so start this diet when you can rest for the first day. After that I felt great, a typical day for me now is 2 eggs on toast, 4 chicken drumsticks for lunch plus salad, the dinner of grilled bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms. Now and then I need some kind of dessert, so I have some 'ice-cream' I made from warming cream, a little water, ground up brazil nuts and Lindt 85% cocoa dark chocolate. This is my 4th day in and I have dropped 5 lbs already. I know I can stick to this because I don't get hungry and I don't crave carbs, and I KNOW I can have a little dark choc so I don't feel deprived! I will be back in a month to write a follow-up and fingers crossed I will be buying some new jeans!! Amazingly easy and enjoyable diet! Buy it, if it worked for me, anyone can do it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - It Works!!
Over the years I have tried many diets and haven't been able to stick to them for very long,a friend recommended this book and I thought I'd give it a try as a last ditch attempt to lose some weight,I found it hard to believe that I'd not be hungry on ANY diet so I was sceptical about this one too. However, within a couple of weeks it became obvious that I was losing weight but wasn't craving food all the time and within a year I had lost three and a half stones. If there's anyone out there who is beginning to despair then don't,buy this book,it works!!.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Really good diet, well written!
In one week I was slimmer, even after two days I felt better. By the end of the first week I had to do my belt up another notch and thats not kidding!

Most of the book is meals ideas etc. and only the first 70 to 80 pages explains the actual diet but this is all you need to understand the plan.

Like the author and other reviewers state, you will not be hungry as you would be on a calorie controlled diet that everyone has tried and failed at many times.

I have leant my booked to work colleagues after they commented on my better appearance.
