Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Could be more useful
Like all sleep books for babies how useful this book is will depend on how close it is to your own methods!

I bought it when looking for an alternative to Controlled Crying, NOT CIO which many people mistakenly think is Ferberizing.

I felt much of the book was filler, obviuos advice designed for parents lacking any self confidence. The charts woudl have been more useful if they were endpapers that you could copy more easily. I also found the emphasis on learning your babies rhythms to be a little idealistic. My son didn't have a nighttime rhythm, that was the whole problem! There are babies out there who don't wake looking for comfort, a drink, in pain etc, they just WAKE UP! I have now got a 13 mnth old who is sleeping better but not because of this book. In fact the book made me feel like a failure as a mother rather than giving me confidence to succeed

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This is the book you were looking for!
I recommend this book to all parents who want to change anything in their child's sleeping habits. My baby (7 months) used to wake up 4-5 times between 11PM and 7AM. Even though I accepted it, I slowly started to realize that at his age he really did not need to drink so many times at night. For my son it had become a habit that was very difficult to stop. Everybody around me advised to let the baby "cry it out", but even though I don't consider myself a 'softie', I was very much against this method.

The book offers many ideas for baby aged 0-2 yr, you can pick out the ideas that suit you most. It's for breastfed and bottle babies, co sleepers or not, it suits everyone!! We have followed the method carefully for 30 days, and we now have a happier baby who sleeps better (longer) during the day, and sleeps through the night.

Try it yourself, it really works!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - helpful and sympathetic alternative to CIO
This book was my light at the end of the tunnel. It's written by a mother who has been there and knows what she is talking about. It offers lots of possibilities how to get your baby to sleep better without letting him cry it out. This book showed me that I'm not the only one with a poorly sleeping baby who don't want to use CIO, even if many people suggested it as the only solution to my problem. It helped me hanging in there and made me believe that I'm not stupid or insane, but a mum who loves her baby deeply and wants the best for him.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finally, the answer to my prayers.
I have a 6 year old son, that had a lot of sleep problems for his first 2 years. I have a 5 month old son, that had hardly slept more than 1 hour at a time since birth. In other ways, they're perfect children that I love totally : ) I have had the advice of health service counsellers (that mostly advocated that they should cry it out... well, that did NOT work and it made me go nutty to listen to the poor wee things cry). I have a lot of experience in finding ways to help them sleep, and have been re-inventing the wheel a thousand times (because lots of what I do has been done by parents for thousands of years, it just doesn't seem that anybody bothers to put it down in writing). I have been reading many books about babies“ sleep, and mostly they made me more insecure, because they said either:
1. Cry it out (and I couldn't do it).
2. Endure it and love your baby (and I desperately needed a tiny bit of sleep).
They were also often so big that a sleep deprived parent had no way of reading through them.
But, there came a book, with such a good amount of good advice, some things that I'd done with success, other things I hadn't done, other things I'd done but as it takes a few days to see the result I'd given up before seeing the good result.
Now I've got the courage to do the right thing, and already my younger baby is sleeping MUCH better. I wholeheartedly, lovingly, desperately, truly reccommend this book. I wish I'd had it 2 weeks before my first baby was born, but at least I'm glad it will help me and my second baby now, and a big number of loving, sleep deprived parents out there : ) What a great gift this book is : )

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love sleep!
I honestly feel that this is the best 'sleep' book available to parents. In my sleep deprived/obsessed phase, I read everything I could get my hands on in the search for sleep. This book provided the most practical and reassuring advice that actually worked without scaring me or making me feel guilty that I was doing something horribly wrong because my son was not a good sleeper. In addition, I found the content to be clear, concise and well organized without a lot of scientific jargon to bog down the main points. I was able to keep a copy by my bed side (for the relatively little time that I was actually in bed!) to read applicable sections bit by bit. As a result, I didn't feel overwhelmed, and was able to apply what I was learning at my own pace. I will always keep a copy of this book close at hand to remind me of how far we've come. There may just even be another baby in our future!
