VHS : Django Strikes Again (1987)

This is one of the rare cases where a sequel proves far superior to the original. Where the original film 'Django' fell short in characterization and plot, the follow-up proves to be not only a powerful action film, but also a solid, entertaining action feature as well. Franco Nero gives a worn but passionate performance of an ex-gunfighter who has seen too much death, but must bring his trusty weapons out of storage to stop murderous slave-traders. This whole movie, from beginning to end, had ... Read More:

VHS : The Devil's Brigade
It is the height of the Second World War. Someone decided it was time to have a Joint Readiness Brigade. Many did not want to see it succeed so it was t consist of the bottom of the barrel US troops and crack Canadian troops. Naturedly to head this up was Lt. Col. Robert T. Frederick (William Holden), Maj. Alan Crown (Cliff Robertson), and Maj. Cliff Bricker (Vince Edwards).

The film is formula (a "Dirty Dozen" knockoff) where they must give a rag tag motley crew the incentive to become ... Read More:

VHS : Resurrection
If you like Ellen Burstyn, or even if you don't and have a bit of an open mind, you'll love this film. It is a moving and sensitive portrayal of the painful journey of someone blessed/cursed with perception and abilities that we normally discount. Ellen Burstyn is magnificent, and the story is compelling.

VHS : A Night to Remember
I saw this film for the first time when I was maybe 11 years old (mid-60s) and became captivated by everything concerning the TITANIC ever since.

It's a waste to compare it to either the 1953 Clifton Webb movie or to the Cameron version. For the Webb film, Walter Lord's book had not yet come out so the producers worked with what they had as far as historical "facts." As for Cameron, he "borrowed" many scenes from NIGHT TO REMEMBER both as an homage but because they are more gripping than anything a screenwriter could come up ... Read More:

VHS : Walkabout
Walkabout is introduced in the film as an important period in the life of an Aborigine. A time at the age of sixteen or so that the man-child must survive in the bush by himself for six months. If he survives he is a man, if not...well he really isn't anything because he's probably dead. Going into the film my understanding of Walkabout was sort of a break from white society into the traditional Aboriginal lifestyle for a period of time. The other use of Walkabout that I have heard is in reference to a British Monarch or some higher level of ... Read More:

VHS : Dillinger
Yet another movie (this one made for TV) about famous 1930's bank robber John Dillinger. This time Dillinger is played by Mark Harmon and Marshal Melvin Purvis, Dillinger's nemesis, is played by Will Patton. Moves too fast to become boring, but its instantly forgettable despite the good cast. Stick with John Milius' 1973 movie of the same name.

I saw this movie for the first time last night w/ my father. He wanted me to see this movie to see the contrast of what people were like in the 40's-50's and how society is today. I'm 23 years old and to be honest with you, I thought that I wouldn't like this movie. As it turns out, I greatly enjoyed it. It was a wonderful story, full of patriotism - it just makes you proud to be in this country. What movies are out that are like this today? None. And that makes me incredibly sad to see such anti-Americanism. For what? If you want to see a movie ... Read More:

I was 15 when I waited for this show every week! I still remember when the 5th Dimension was on the show singing "One Less Bell to Answer" and there was a series of dissonant chords tacked on to the ending (for this show). The final chord was to cause some kind of explosion or something. Of course, Al figures it out beforehand and all is right with the world! WHY, OH WHY is this show NOT on DVD??? I would pay a premium price for EVERY show! Also, I think R. J. should star in a new series with his son doing the dirty work, but Dad knows the tricks! (Sort ... Read More:

VHS : Red Dawn
Dreary "What-If" movie about a bunch of brat packers (a militia group calling themselves "The Wolverines") revolting against Soviet occupied America. The action/battle sequences are third-rate, the characters are one dimensional, and the script is very lame and predictable. The film's core point-of-view is a time-capsule for the Reagan Era paranoia of the evil red empire (Russia). Only thing worth watching in the film is the outdoor wilderness location shots, otherwise there is nothing that is remotely of value in this terrible John Milius film. ... Read More:
