I checked this book out of library when my first child was a baby. I now use AskDrSears.com website. This book is very comprehensive and a good reference book from attachment parenting perspective. I would also recommend to read about other perspectives.

If you need to go back to work then you may find that some ideas are not practical, but overall it is a good book. It talks a lot about breastfeeding, carrying your baby in a sling and co-sleeping. Sears don't tell you that you are ... Read More:

I bought this book as well as the Ferber Method book. I wanted to be well researched. What I loved about this book was the compassionate side. It is written from a mother's perspective rather than a science perspective. It doesn't promise fast results, but give practical tips to the frustrated mother. After 11 days my daughter was sleeping from about 8pm at night until 8am the next morning and only waking at 1am to nurse. It also turned me on to attachment parenting, to which I also bought (and reviewed ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this book for the first couple pages, but once I got into it I realized that they write in a way that almost seems judgmental and made me feel that I had done everything in my pregnancy wrong. Certain topics that I looked up in the book I noticed that they were very quick to add the negative and I felt so panicked and scared reading this book. I have read many other books since and have never felt that same panic as I did reading this book. I highly recommend the pregnancy bible, or the complete ... Read More:

I have premature ovarian failure (POF) and I have found the FAM method extremely helpful in predicting periods (I get a few days notice), and ovulation even though I have very irregular or infrequent periods. If my period is several weeks late, I can tell if i am actually pregnant or if its just my POF. I save a ton of money on pee tests because the other physical symptoms are so reliable in telling me why my period is late: I dont have to worry about the possibility of being pregnant everytime my period is over ... This book was excellent and informative! As the mother of a preemie, I especially enjoyed reading the section on the low birthweight baby. I loved reading about different milestones that a baby may (or may not) be reaching each month. This book answered so many of my questions, and I would recommend it to any new parent!!

Ann Douglas starts out by telling you what this book will not be-- not one of those overly preachy, doom-and-gloom books that make you feel guilty for having a can of Diet Coke, and not one of those fluffy, girlfriend-style books that are light on substance and heavy on personal anecdotes that may or may not have any relevance to the reader (and may in fact be terribly misleading-- one such book I just read advises a woman not to exercise while pregnant). On both counts, she's right. This book had (most of) the factual information ... Read More:

I bought this book when I pregnant with my first child. I read it and re-read it over and over again. The information is great and the pictures are even better! The ultrasound pictures are great and gives you a clear idea what your own baby looks like inside of you at any given point in your pregnancy. I also found it handy after my daughter was born...then AGAIN when I got pregnant with my second child. This is the ONLY pregnancy book you will ever need!!!

A friend lent me this book and I'll be buying my own copy. I hadn't thought much about birthing. All I knew was that I will be going to the hospital and I don't want an episiotomy. This book starts with stories of regular women and their positive birthing outcomes. It's empowering and makes me feel so much better about giving birth. Then the book explains how the midwives achieve such positive outcomes vs doctors in hospitals. I love the intellectual back-up to the great stories.

I bought this book for my husband, thinking 'aww' a book especially for him. My husband hated it. And on reading so did I. The author obviously has a very usual relationship with his wife as he often talks about feelings of jealously between them. Its very unusual. For example "when you feel the baby kicks your wife might feel jealous as so far its been her private pregnancy"! How ridiculous how would jealousy ever come into it! The book assumes all men are concerned about is finances - it has pages and pages on money, insurance etc. there is nothing much ... Read More:

If you are concerned about giving birth--and who isn't???--this is a great book to read. It really helped ease soe fears I had and really gave some great tips and insight. Highly recommended. I also liked and would recommend "You Know You're Pregnant When...Reflections".
