Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - empathetic and helpful book
I bought The No-Cry Sleep Solution after my 5-month-old son began waking in tears almost every hour during the night. In three hours I had zoomed through this straightforward, easily readable book. Pantley offers realistic, simple and manageable options for dissuading unhealthy sleep habits and teaching baby to self-soothe. "Crying it out" was not an option for us for several reasons and this book empowered us to help our baby to sleep calmly with a minimum of distress to him and to us. The book is empathetic, compassionate and encouraging (I greatly appreciated the flexibility of Pantley's sleep plan, even though some would be critical of her "do-what's-right-for-you" approach, which can include interrupting your plan in favour of getting much-needed sleep!). With persistence (and even with a couple of plan interruptions) we have made steady progress over the past 2 months. We still have work to do, but I'm grateful to this book for providing an effective, long-term option to the "cry-it-out" method. I would enthusiastically recommend this book to any parent facing sleep challenges with his/her child.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Happy to have an alternative to Crying!
I bought this book as well as the Ferber Method book. I wanted to be well researched. What I loved about this book was the compassionate side. It is written from a mother's perspective rather than a science perspective. It doesn't promise fast results, but give practical tips to the frustrated mother. After 11 days my daughter was sleeping from about 8pm at night until 8am the next morning and only waking at 1am to nurse. It also turned me on to attachment parenting, to which I also bought (and reviewed on this site) Dr. Sears' Attachment Parnting book. I recommend both. THey have totally changed my parenting style for the better.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - some good ideas
I thought this book was very practical and had some usefull ideas. My 10 month old is still not sleeping through the night but I think she is improving. The thing I did not like was the fact that some of her ideas did not work for us and it doesn't have any advice if they dont work except to keep trying them. Overall a good book and would recommend it to others.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent, long-term results
I first used the ideas from this book with my daughter, who has special needs. The moment I picked up the book, it made so much sense to me--to change a habit carefully, step by step, rather than trying to quit what we'd been doing since birth "cold turkey." It took several months of patient work, but it was worth it. Every book I read tells me that children with her needs generally sleep poorly, but my daughter sleeps all night, every night. She is well-rested and that makes her better able to face her challenges and learn and grow. Since my son was born I haven't worried about his sleep because I knew I could count on this book--and indeed, he is also learning how to sleep well. With patience, this book provides excellent long-term results and many peaceful nights.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finally - A Book with all the Answers!
What a fantastic book this is! I have read 2 other baby sleep books but this is the one. Many books just talk about theories and vague ideas. Elizabeth Pantley actually gives you practical advice that you can use and alter to your own needs! I was about at my wits end with our 15 month old son when I came across the NO CRY METHOD. I was so worn down and was always worrying about how long it would take to put him down at night. Elizabeth gives some wonderful advice on how to get through that while working through the METHOD. She gives a step by step process that you can try for getting your baby to sleep on his/her own and sleeping through the night. I even emailed Elizabeth and kindly returned my email with more wonderful advice or insight. My son isn't a perfect sleeper yet, but he's close! Thanks Elizabeth.
